MEET THE CREW

We, Noa and Joseph, sail with you as part of the core crew, guiding the sailing, participating in daily life onboard, and sharing our knowledge and experience.

Together, we have sailed over 11,000 nautical miles during the past two years. With our experience and love for life at sea, we share this journey, with a focus on safety, connection with nature, practical learning, and life onboard.

NOA

I’m from Galicia, in the northwest of Spain, a region known for its wild seas and landscapes. I grew up traveling across Europe in a mobile home with my family, which gave me a deep love for freedom, movement, and discovering new places.

Dance has been part of my life since I was 8. It’s something instinctive for me, especially when Latin music is playing.

Sailing came later, through Joseph and the start of the SAILING MARLIN project. I began with almost no experience and learned everything step by step on the water, which made the journey feel real, challenging, and deeply rewarding.

JOSEPH

Sailing has been my passion for many years. I enjoy spending time in nature and exploring our world, below and above the sea. My sailing journey began in competitive racing, and as a member of the German Sailing Team, I developed the skills and expertise to coach and manage competitive sailing teams. Today, I continue to share my love for sailing, teamwork, and the wonderful natural environment we are fortunate to live in.

ROUTE

We have carefully planned our route with short offshore passages, creating opportunities to learn and exchange sailing knowledge at sea while leaving plenty of time to explore ashore, stay active, and deepen our connection with the natural world around us.

Guadeloupe will always be our starting and ending point. However, minor adjustments to the route may be necessary to ensure safe sailing, depending on weather and sea conditions.

GUADELOUPE & DOMINICA

11 days, 120 nm, 5 islands

Guadeloupe offers a remarkable diversity of islands and marine environments to explore by sea. Its smaller islands, Les Saintes, Petite-Terre and Marie-Galante, provide unique opportunities to discover coastal ecosystems and appreciate the natural heritage of the French Caribbean.

Dominica, known as the Nature Island of the Caribbean, is renowned for its volcanic landscapes, waterfalls, and rainforests. It is home to the indigenous Kalinago people, who continue to preserve their cultural heritage and traditions. Reaching this island by boat is a unique opportunity to fully immerse yourself in untouched nature and local culture.

FAQ

DO I NEED SAILING EXPERIENCE TO JOIN YOU?

No, not at all. We are happy to welcome everyone on board and are also willing to share our experience and learnings as liveaboards.

We are not a sailing school, but you can benefit from Joseph’s racing background to learn anything from the basics to more advanced sailing techniques. Noa started sailing at the beginning of our journey and knows exactly how to translate the nerdy sailing stuff into clear, understandable language for sailors of all levels.

WHAT IS LIFE LIKE ON BOARD?

We value a calm, nature-connected atmosphere and a friendly, easygoing way of being together. If you are looking for a party boat or a loud, high-energy scene, this may not be the right fit. Instead, we appreciate tranquility, mutual respect, and a shared appreciation for the natural environment around us.

Life on board is based on shared living and teamwork, where everyone takes part in the daily routines. This means we all contribute to keeping the boat tidy, preparing meals together, and supporting one another in the daily flow of life on board.

While always leaving space for flexibility and your own ideas, we aim for a balanced rhythm of around 50% sailing and 50% time exploring ashore.

To give you a clearer sense of everyday life, you can refer to the sample itinerary, which reflects our experience from having sailed these places before.

WHERE WILL I SLEEP?

MARLIN has two separate cabins, each with a double bed, a private sink, and storage lockers. You will be staying in the cozy aft cabin, and you are also welcome to sleep on deck on our inflatable mattress if you prefer.

WHAT WILL WE EAT ON BOARD?

At the start of the week, we will stock up on groceries for the entire trip. We will cook together on board, but we can also bring you ashore to enjoy a meal at a local restaurant.

We both enjoy a wide variety of foods, so there are no dietary restrictions on our end. Still water, coffee, and tea are always available. We usually don’t drink alcohol ourselves, but you are welcome to bring your own if you would like to enjoy a drink during the trip.

The estimated cost for groceries is approximately 20 € per person per day, based on mostly cooking on board.

If you prefer, we can also arrange groceries in advance for a fixed cost.

HOW MUCH WATER IS AVAILABLE ON BOARD?

We carry 340 liters of fresh water on board. To conserve it, we usually shower first with seawater and then rinse off with fresh water. We follow the same approach when washing dishes. This helps us make the most of our freshwater supply and avoid the need to refill during the trip.

WHICH LANGUAGE DO WE SPEAK ON BOARD?

We both speak English, German and Spanish fluently. Noa also speaks Portuguese, and Joseph understands Portuñol. We are happy to communicate in the language you prefer. However, to ensure everyone feels comfortable and respected on board, we always choose a language that everyone can understand and speak.

WHAT LEVEL OF FITNESS DO I NEED?

This experience involves moderate physical activity, including sailing, hiking, swimming, and dinghy transfers. You should be in good health to participate comfortably.

WHAT ARE THE TOTAL COSTS?

In addition to the cost contribution, the cost of food consumed on board is shared among everyone. On our previous trips, this has amounted to roughly 20 € per person per day.

We usually stay at anchor, so no mooring fees apply. If you would like to go into a harbour or pick up a mooring buoy, these costs would need to be covered. Prices start at about 12 € per night for a mooring buoy.

For two people in a shared cabin, the costs for 11-days will be approximately:
3.290 € + 2 p.p. x 11-days x 20 € = 3.730 € (1.865 € per person)

WHAT IS THE CANCELLATION POLICY?

Down payments are non-refundable. However, we will do our best to fill your spot. If we are able to find someone to take your place, you will receive a full refund.

WHAT HAPPENS IF BAD WEATHER HITS US?

Weather systems in the Caribbean are generally stable and predictable. However, we are constantly monitoring conditions to ensure the safest and most enjoyable experience for everyone on board. Safety is always our top priority, so plans may be adjusted if necessary.

CAN I JOIN ON MY OWN?

Yes, you can also join as a single person. To ensure everyone sleeps well, we do not pair solo travelers with others unless specifically requested. The cost contribution is 2.450 € for 11 days or 2.990 € for 14 days.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING WITH ME?

We recommend bringing only the essentials in a soft bag or backpack, as there is no space on board for bulky luggage. Once you have confirmed your participation, we will send you a detailed packing list.
